GAW Stations for the Ozone Layer and Ultraviolet Radiation Observation

JMA started ozone layer observation at Tsukuba in 1957, at Sapporo and Kagoshima in 1958, at Syowa in 1961, at Naha in 1974, and at Minamitorishima in 1994. JMA also started ultraviolet radiation observation at Tsukuba in 1990, and at Sapporo, Kagoshima, Naha and Syowa in 1991. Table 1 shows the locations and other details of JMA’s ozone and ultraviolet radiation observation stations. These are registered as GAW stations, and related datasets are available on the Annual Report on Atmospheric and Marine Environment Monitoring Data and the WOUDC (World Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation Data Centre) website.
